K.H.O.G #3637 5 - Day Ride - Ya'll Gettin' Excited 'Bout Going?
Hey K.H.O.G. 5-Day Hillbilly HUB #2 Riders!!!!!
We’re only a couple days away from being officially one month away from kickstands up on our return to Cookeville Tennessee. Last weekend our co-chair Mark Butler and I completed the pre-ride and except for it being unseasonably very cold (36 degrees in Cookeville last Sunday morning) the trip went off without a hitch, all roads are in great shape. Your ride booklets are complete and they, along with your ride patch, will be ready for you at the June Chapter meeting. Also, the Upper Cumberland Valley H.O.G. has sent us these awesome “Motorcycle Touring Maps” of the area for our trip. If you miss the June Chapter meeting and may also miss breakfast at the Cracker Barrel please let us know as soon as possible so we can mail your ride booklet to you.
There was one slight snag from the 2014 5-Day Ride on the first fuel stop as Rhodes 101 in Anna Illinois has suffered a failure in the high octane pumps. It actually worked out for the best as it reminded me on our 2014 trip to Cookeville some folks were needing additional caffeine prior to Anna so we’ve made an adjustment.
Everyone lives in different directions and distances from Interstate 44 and Bowles Avenue in Fenton so rather than ask everyone to try to “top-off” before arriving for breakfast we’re taking the position of “don’t worry about your fuel” prior to breakfast, it’s enough to be getting there at 5:30 in the morning. With Illinois being weird about 91+ octane on the backroads we’ve added a 91+ octane “fuel and caffeine” stop early in the trip so folks can fuel up and have that “little extra hit” of mo-jo. Also, by topping off together at this large and clean initial early fuel stop we will all be on the same page as to fuel with full tanks. Due to its size and accessibility we kept Rhodes 101 in Anna as a “caffeine stop” and also by then………………a “relief stop”!
The Cracker Barrel restaurant in Fenton across from the old Chrysler plant has graciously agreed to open a half hour early (5:30 a.m.) on June 22nd just for our Hillbilly Hub Ride 2. The request from Mark and I went to the regional manager and she along with the store manager must have some “biker blood” in their veins as they immediately granted our request. They understand our ride, the need to get on the road early, and the distance we are covering and so as to be prepared for our group they asked me to call them as soon as I could with an estimated head count so they can have enough servers. If you could please reply to this e-mail and let me know whether or not you will be joining Mark and I for breakfast we will make sure they have enough staff.
Access to the first part of our trip (I-44 and I-270) is very easy and smooth when leaving the Cracker Barrel so I’m hoping to keep the group together and, depending on how big the planned attendance is at breakfast, I will be reaching out to the Missouri State Highway Patrol and/or the St. Louis County Police Departments motorcycle group for a police escort of our group (I’m going to entice them with an offer to join us for breakfast). If all goes as planned we’re going to make quite the impression as we motor out of town with as many as 20 staggered rows of motorcycles so in addition to law enforcement I’m reaching out to a local news crew about having them capture us riding by on the morning news from one of the many overpasses along the way out of St. Louis. I’ll let you know which news crew is coming out prior to the ride so you can tell friends and family and also set your DVR’s at home. Make sure you wave as we go by!!!!
If breakfast is not going to work for you please make sure you’re well on your way out of St. Louis by 6:30 a.m. otherwise you’ll be fighting rush-hour traffic. You can meet up with the main group as we stop for fuel at the FastStop located just past Waterloo Illinois on Rt 3 at the intersection of Illinois Rt 156 (Park St). The main group should arrive there by 7 a.m.
There’s still room for a few more “Hillbilly’s” so if ya’lls knows of someone who’s gots thems a scatter gun and loves a rip snortin’ good time ya’ll needs to gets-em up ta speed on board rights now! Respond back to us with any questions and keep riding safe! Quick side note, Kim and I are headin’ out of town this afternoon to see the Grandkids in Atlanta, returning next Monday night (the 23rd). I’ll have alls the rides info wit me sews if ya’s needs me for somethin’ or has a quick question befores weeeze gets back gimme me a holler or a text on my cell, 314-591-0789.
