There are two main course types taught in our area the Basic Rider Course and the Experienced Rider Course. I would recommend both courses to every rider. It is a great chance to have someone review your skills and I guarantee you will learn something new that will make you a better rider.
Basic Rider Course (BRC)
The BRC serves two purposes. It introduces new riders to the skills needed for safe riding and for the State test. It is also a very good refresher for those that have been away from riding for a while or would like someone to review their skills. The course has both a classroom component and a range component.
This course covers the basic fundamentals for you to develop your capabilities to become a safe and responsible motorcyclist. It provides the opportunity for you to learn the physical and mental skills important for operating a motorcycle. In the classroom, you will learn ways to minimize risk and handle special riding situations.
During the riding portions of the Basic Rider Course, you will be coached to develop the physical skills of basic control that include: straight line riding, stopping, turning, and shifting, and then move on to more advanced skills in stopping quickly, cornering, and swerving.
General Requirements: Must bring DOT-approved helmet, boots, gloves, long-sleeved jacket or heavy shirt, eye protection, long pants, and show proof of medical insurance. Those who successfully complete the course will be issued a completion card from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, which is recognized by many insurance companies for premium discounts. Motorcycles are furnished. Successful completion of the course waives the on-bike portion of the Missouri state test for motorcycle endorsement of your driver's license.
Experienced Rider Course (ERC)
This course is conducted primarily on the motorcycle with discussion and review between activities. This course builds on
what you have learned in the BRC and your on-road experience.
Using your own motorcycle, you'll put into practice the techniques of managing traction, stopping quickly, cornering, advanced maneuvers, and swerving.
General Requirements: Students must be 16 years of age or older and have motorcycle endorsement on driver's license, and provide their own insured street legal motorcycle. Must bring helmet boots, gloves, long-sleeved jacket or heavy shirt, eye protection, long pants, and show proof of medical insurance. Reserved for licensed riders with at least one year or 1,000 miles of riding experience.
Below is a little information about the main offerings in our area. This is just to get you started. There are limited spaces in each class and the dates listed below are just schedules.
