Kirkwood LOH - Spotlight on Tammy
To see or hear a Harley go down the road...what a rush I felt! Always thinking to myself, “I’d LOVE to do that with my own bike.” Time was ticking by me. So, I got my nerve up and told my husband of 29 years, that I wanted to get a Harley. I knew he would not be too keen on this idea of mine. I had always made the safe choice. So, out of my normal “Go with the flow”, I came up with this. He was, needless to say, shocked. I was defying all he wished I would do. But, I went forward, found the Harley I wanted, and bought it.
I had to have it delivered because I still did not have a motorcycle License. Then, I took the Riders Edge Class from DOC'S Harley Davidson store. That was the best thing I could have done. I passed the class, and in doing so, I found the self-esteem and confidence that I needed to be able to ride. That was the most awesome feeling.
The riding skills, which I learned, I have used everyday that I ride. I met a lady when I was looking at the store for my bike, Carlena is her name. She told me to call her when it got my bike and we would ride. I found myself still unsure of my riding skills and with my husband telling me I was “going to kill myself” I wondered if I did the wrong thing. But I ran across Carlena’s phone number one day, and called her and told her how I was feeling. That evening, after working all day, she rode to my house, which was over 25 miles, to watch me ride. We took off from my house and we rode over 40 miles, and even came back home in the dark! This was my first ride ever on my own bike. After that day, I knew there’d be NO STOPPING ME.
I joined the Kirkwood H.O.G. chapter; The Kirkwood Ladies of Harley and the only women riders group, Women in the Wind Chrome Goddesses chapter. I wish only ONE thing....I would of done this long before NOW...I love it, enjoy it, and have to do it as much as I can. The experience of riding and meeting new people has been wonderful! AND a BIG Thanks to Carlena, Todd, and Debbie.
Oh yeah, My Husband is cool with me and my Harley now. We even went looking at one for him the other day…WOW!
